When I was 16 years of age I began working part-time in a local duck hatchery and breeding farm. I was responsible for collecting the eggs and grading them and this was the beginning of my career in the poultry industry. When I completed my A Levels, I started a Modern Apprenticeship course in Poultry Production at Easton College, Norwich and I have also completed a BTEC and an NVQ Level 2.
On starting to study for my Modern Apprenticeship, my college put me in touch with Bernard Matthews Ltd and I haven’t looked back since. As a Veterinary Administration Officer for Bernard Matthews Ltd, I am responsible for over-seeing the vaccination of the birds, routine health surveillance and ensuring that the correct medication is administered. I started work for my current employer as a veterinary administration assistant and now I have progressed to the veterinary administration officer, and now I’m the one with the assistant!
Agriculture is an incredibly dynamic and ever-changing industry. In view of this, I hope to be able to change with it, learn new skills and advance my knowledge. Everyday I face new challenges and the opportunity for progression, added to this the unpredictability of my customers makes my job very enjoyable and fulfilling.
