George Mitchell, Greenkeeper, Newmacher Golf Club

George Mitchell works as a Greenkeeper at Newmacher Golf Club and has been with the club for 8 years. With 16 years of experience in the profession, it would have been easy for George to take the attitude that he knows all there is to know about Greenkeeping.

However George is keen to develop his skills and knowledge andhas shown a high level of commitment to training. George recently completed a Modern Apprenticeship in Amenity Horticulture, producing a high standard of portfolio evidence.

George was one of six finalists in Lantra`s Scottish Land-based Modern Apprentice of the Year 2003 awards. These special awards have been designed to reward the achievements of Modern Apprentices in Scotland who demonstrate commitment, have gained knowledge in a specialised land-based subject and support others as part of their personal development.

George is also responsible for supporting new trainees in the workplace and is keen to progress to the level of Head Greenkeeper.
